Writer's Block: Winter wonderland

Would you prefer to spend your holidays in the tropics or in a winter wonderland?

View 558 Answers

I long for the days of my childhood when the sight of a snowflake (Dallas, Texas) would close EVERYTHING down. Schools, work, everything would close down. But alas, I live in Iowa where at least this dislocated Texan knows how to drive on icy roads. Snow, it used to be fun but now...well now...I hate it with a passion because of all the injuries one can incurr because of it, not only slipping on the snowy-ice and yes that's what it becomes, but from just shoveling the stuff. It's literally like lifting a half of a brick with every shovelful. None of my kids want to play in it, I don't want to kill myself trying to learn how to ski, sledding or any other thing that could end in a life ending head injury just because it's fun! Well, no thank you. I don't even like waterskiing, much less snow skiing which I have never tried out. No, I'd prefer to throw on just a good wind breaker verses dressing in layers for the winter.

Yes honesty is really the best policy. And it's been mine for almost 20 years of marriage. I rather know the truth and face the problem head on than to make everyone miserable trying ot hide a lie.

Holiday fic wishlist-The Gift of FanFic

By now most of you know that I'm a multi-fandom fanfic writer. One thing I would want for Chirstmas is well fic. Can't get enough of the stuff really. Now the parameters of my wishlist are these:

1. The pairing must pair the couple together within the rules of the relative universe and canon BUT I would like to see a novel approach of pairing them up in relation to fandom convention.
2. The pairing can be platonic but can lead into something ....else...at the writer's discretion.
3. Story length is the writer's discretion.

I will in exchange write a story for you if you like.

Pairings I would like to receive:

Jack/Elizabeth POTC
Jareth/Sarah Labyrnith
Data/Yar ST:TNG
Daisy Duke/Enos Dukes of Hazzard
Four/Tegan OR Five/Tegan OR Turlough/Nyssa (surprise!) Doctor Who
Qui Gon/Shmi Star Wars-TPM
Hawkeye/Maragret M*A*S*H*

If you have a request, post below and I'll try to write something that resembles a story ;)
Warning cracky response. Should not be taken seriously.

No but I have observed that Captain Jack Sparrow recieved one Jar of Dirt and was told in not so many words that it would help him in his plight he found himself in with one Davey Jones. In the end it did not help one bit and Captain Jack Sparrow was forced to spend time in Davey Jones Locker as a result. A clear and obvisous hoax this was, yet, Captain Jack Sparrow most likely believed it was better to try this method than to use that suspiciously looking acne cream that most probably would only make things worse for him. Therefore, I have learned that when offered mysterious tailsmen such as Jars of dirt, most likely they won't prevent you from being sent to Davey Jones Locker and that one must try the acne cream as a diversionary tactic as you run away to live on land for the rest of your miserable life.

Now, he watched in silence as revenge began to shadow another’s soul. The shining fire that once blazed in Elizabeth’s eyes had dimmed. Her purpose had changed. Beckett will not fall because of what he had done to his life, but because what he had done to hers.

If rumors among the crew were to be believed she had been the first one to speak up to volunteer to save his soul after his demise from the dark recesses of the Locker. He would in turn save hers from the burning in hell that revenge can be by eeking out her revenge for her on Beckett. Then and only then would they be square.

Writer's Block: The Right to Privacy

Should some parts of celebrities' lives be off-limits to the public, or is giving up privacy a fair price for being famous?

View 513 Answers

I am of the opinion we should know enough about a person as much I would want them to know about me. For instance, I would not like anyone using my first name as if they personally knew me when they didn't. I find it rude and distrubing for someone to assume that they can. Though If I am talking to another fan I do use their first names at times in more causal conversations. I also tend to refer to celebrities by their titles and last name only, unless they are royalty where their title and first name is appropiate. I am not the kind of fan to yell "I love you Johnny," in as much as I would like to tell him: "I enjoyed your portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, Mr. Depp". Keeping the relationship where it belongs, as one of his many admirers from a distance.

What celebrities do while during their off time is not really any my business as what I like to do in my off time is really none of their concern. However, being a 'star' does mean you must fan the flame of fame, which means you have to 'stoke' your presence in the community in order to get high paying jobs. It means you have to have drawing power...especially in the media, so studios at least know that some of your fanbase will be going to see your latest movie. How far does one go in revealing private moments , in my opinion, is up to us fans really. If you are disgusted upon the invasion of privacy that the celebrities receive, don't buy the magazines that continually uses invasive measures to get that exclusive 'photo' or story. As my grandmother told me when I was younger: "They put their pants on the same way we do, one leg at a time."

No, but it used to be my job to help the defense and eventually the prosecution gather evidence for Courts-Martials. I'd never do that again. I'd rather work with computers and technology.

Writing: Balance issue

Many of you are familiar with my writing. I tend to make things either overly zany or overly angsty. In other words the whole story is purely ridiculous or too serious for my tastes. I seem to have a hard time striking a neutral tone in a story when I believe one is needed. Is this a common problem as far as setting the mood for a long story (more than four chapters) or is this specifically because I seem to specialize in short stories? Opinions? Ways to improve?
